You Can Help End ID Theft
Welcome to the Maricopa County Attorney’s web page on combating identity theft. Here you will find the tools necessary to protect yourself from becoming a victim of identity theft and information that you will need if you are unfortunate enough to become an identity theft victim.
The Maricopa County Attorney's Office is on the cutting edge of identity theft prosecution. We were one of the first offices in the country to implement a separate bureau dedicated to prosecuting fraud and identity theft. Our office also sponsors seminars to assist consumers and businesses in dealing with and preventing identity theft, and we regularly send our attorneys and administrative staff out to educate the community.
Our newest tool is the "Identity Theft Investigation Jurisdiction Protocol." This was signed by several Valley law enforcement agencies in September 2005, and provides guidelines for all law enforcement agencies to use in order to determine if they should investigate a reported incident of identity theft or if they should refer the reporting party to another agency.
